KCC funding for Broadband in Boughton Monchelsea

In order to address broadband ‘not-spots’ across Kent, KCC has been working with selected Parish Councils to provide a solution for those areas that cannot receive a reliable broadband connection. As one of the Parish Councils selected, Boughton Monchelsea (working together with KCC), has awarded VFast Internet funding to expand its existing network in the village.

As part of the allocated funding, a new package is being introduced for new customers. With a lower monthly cost, the VLite package is aimed at people that require their connection for basic internet browsing and email capabilities.

Q. What will this mean for existing customers?

A. There will be no change or disruption for existing customers. The funding will mean that the existing network can be expanded so that it will be available to more people, and upgraded so that it can support the extra demand.

Q. In the past, I could not justify the monthly connection with VFast, will the funding benefit me?

A. Yes, quite possibly! There will be a new package for new customers that want a broadband connection without all the bells and whistles! If you just want to browse the internet and send emails, then VLite will be ideal. The monthly cost for VLite will be £17.99 per month and have download speeds of 2mbps, with upload speeds of 256kbps. The connection will not be suitable for online gaming or file sharing and will be available for one computer with a usage allowance of 15gb per month.

Q. What other plans are there for the future?

A. We have been trialing equipment that is capable of offering 100Mbps. Trials have been successful with speeds to the client premises reaching 92Mpbs in real world tests. Packages have recently been upgraded to offer headline speeds of 24Mbps, but we are confident that when the demand is there we introduce packages that are even faster!
